Simon Field: Colour evolving apace, with a suitably racy nose and a mature but perfectly constructed palate with a lot of sweetness and a satisfying intensity of fruit, both of which both mask and underline the strength of inherent structure. 15.5
Andrew Jefford: Quite a lot of bricking here for an 11-year-old Port. Slightly odd, close, animal aromas - not horrible, but not perfect, either. Vivid, tasty fruit, relatively light-textured but not yet over the hill. Not a great '83, though... 11
Richard Mayson: Mid-deep-garnet centre, thin browning rim. Attractive open nose of chocolate and spices. Soft, plummy fruit with fleshy tannins rising in the mouth. Firm, rather austere finish. Drink now and over the next 15-20 years. 14.5
