Simon Field: Brick-garnet colouring and a rather hot, impetuous nose - still precocious after all these years. It settles down after a little time in the glass. The palate is rather disjointed, with the tannins and acidity involved in a brawl in the corner as the mid-palate searches for its identity. The search may take some time and may be worth the patience! 16
Andrew Jefford: Dark, with lots of red holding on tenaciously. Bottle 2: warm, ripe, meaty scents, once again suggesting a kind of Bordeaux Right Bank friendliness (bottle 1 was, like the 1970 Fonseca, TCA-subdued). Very soft, creamy, fat and full. The fruit was either not present in equivalent quantities to some of its peers or has slipped away a little more swiftly, but there is still plenty to enjoy here, in a caramelly kind of way. 15
Richard Mayson: Good mid-deep youthful colour, with a ruby-pink rim. Closed (slightly musky) nose. Needs time to open in the glass. Fine, elegant black-cherry fruit on the palate, with firm tannins rising in the mouth and a firm if slightly raw finish. Drink now to 2 0 2 0.16.5
