Stephen Brook: Apple-compote aromas give a rather cooked nose. Very sweet, juicy, upfront fruit, no botrytis influence; clean, has a sherbety zest, very appealing if not that complex. Quite good length. 16
Andrew Jefford: Classic green-gold. Clean and fresh, with some of that 'breath of the woods’ charm that one hopes for. Stylistically appealing, though not hugely forthcoming or multilayered. Lots of sweetness, but lovely grassy, leafy, copse-like freshness behind, too - what I think of as real Nahe charm and classicism. As so often with 2003 (and compare 2001), the mineral elements seem to have gone missing somewhat, submerged beneath the high tide of sugars, but I am confident in this case that they will steal out with time, and there is enough acidity to keep the wine on classic track. No hurry here. 16.5
Jancis Robinson: Very opulent nose. Marked sherbet acidity on the palate. Lively - just a little bit pinched at the moment. Drink 2009-22. 16
