BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, virtually opaque. No great give on the nose, perhaps a touch too much oak. A mouthful of Morello cherry (as distinct from sour cherry) fruit in the mouth; has the components for a good wine—needs to come together. Good length, perhaps a slight excess of weight. 16

Bruno Besa: Deep core to pink; orange rim. Mature, open, a touch jammy black-fruit nose, with dried prunes and hints of forest undergrowth. Full body with sweet tannins. A bit overripe and lacking in typicity. 15

Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red. Earthy, warm, slightly gruff; another aroma in which a handful of charcoal seems to have found its way into the ripe plum. Concentrated, deep, vigorous, sweet, and openpored. You want the vintage? You got the vintage! This is 2009 down to its last gene, for better or worse. But it’s a richly constituted, deep wine, serious in its own way, despite the extravagant ripeness; there are surely good vineyards here. 15
