We’re now into very familiar modern-day territory, and here comes a global rock star. A light-medium garnet, with some dark ruby glints at its core. From other individuals’ comments who spoke about the 1963, our bottle was seemingly quite different from theirs.Perfumed scents of marionberry and rhubarb, not as ripe as some of the other Ports that we tasted earlier. Massively fruited, with redcurrant and blackberry juice, off-dry, slightly earthy, with a rock-rose note. Bright, youthful, with chiseled tannins and a layered mid-palate, leading to a stellar, long, smooth finish. This is a very solid ’63 Fonseca. | 96
