Bruce Schoenfeld: Another vintage with an abnormally high proportion of Cabernet Franc—in this case, 14%. That gives it some appealing high tones, but I’m wondering if it doesn’t also contribute to the mid-palate thinness that holds it back from true Franc), this wine has a ripeness that sits right at greatness. The wine is supple, muscular, and balanced, but there doesn’t seem to be quite enough paint to cover the canvas totally. On the positive side, even at 14.1% ABV, there’s a gentleness to the wine that I wish were present in some of the more recent vintages. And the wine suffers by comparison to its neighbors. The lack of persistence would be far less noticeable if more complete vintages weren’t readily at hand.
