Jesús Barquín:The nose offers incense, lavender, and dry figs, with good definition and harmony. The tannins are almost chewy—but gentle, with noticeable alcohol and a complex, long finish marked by menthol and licorice. Powerful and very expressive. 17
Richard Mayson:Very deep opaque color; closed, tight-knit, not giving much away on the nose, hint of blackberry and mulberry; firm, tight-knit fruit, on the dry side, powerful dry peppery tannins rising in the mouth and on to the finish. Quite austere in style but should make old bones in 20–30 years. 17
Charles Metcalfe:Dark, malty, herby. Big, rich, smooth-tannined. Impressive wine that aims for a rich, voluptuous style. Grainy, very firm tannins, but with real smoothness and richness. It’s a deliberately big, rich style, with length and freshness. Flavors are dark, very much black-fruit based. 17
