Alex Hunt: Quite muffled nose, not enough brightness, a bit Marmitey. Extremely tannic, without the fruit richness to match. Out of balance- 10
Andrew Jefford: Saturated purple-red. Very darkly aromatic, with lots of smoldering enticements to it; a jeweled aromatic feast. Hedonistic and seductive in the context of this tasting. Purring fruit, plush sweetness, some meaty complexities. Lush, full, ripe, mouth-filling, rich—yet this variety fills the palate with its diagnostic freshness and life. There are lovely clinging, almost tarry tannins sticking to the lively black fruit with the tenacity of burrs to socks; the acidity is fresh and comes vividly out of the wine like a spring; and the overall mingle of flavors is so unusual in the global context that you simply have to keep returning to the wine and sipping again and again. Wonderful stuff- 17
Simon Larkin: Deep, intense, with a youthful rim. The nose is subdued. The palate shows a good volume of fruit, a hint of bell pepper, slightly herbaceous, with a simple dark fruit and marked acidity. Really rasping on the finish; there is little fruit on show to offset the marked acidity- 10
