Nicolas Belfrage: Quite deep, youthful. A little undeveloped on the nose but has underlying character. Unexpectedly gritty on the palate, though the tannins are fine, the components are all there. Expect a very fine and complex wine when it comes around. Drink from 2019. 92
Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Rich, savory black-cherry nose, with a light balsamic tone, presumably from the oak. Very ripe attack, sumptuous but not overblown, very concentrated, black fruits and chocolate—a bold forthright style with pungency and energy. Quite high alcohol, I would suspect, though it’s not too obtrusive. It’s not very subtle or refined, but has abundant fruit and an immediate appeal. Moreover, the tannins and acidity should give it the structure to age. A bit flashy for my taste, but it does have an irresistible exuberance. 90
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red. An outstanding aromatic profile: not loud or insistent, but soft and understated, yet hugely complex: dry mushrooms, sweet tobacco, supple leather. Even a floral note, too. Long, fragrant, fine. On the palate, this is concentrated, deep, dramatic, vivid, and long, as one would expect from this lapidary vintage: magnificent depth and penetration here, and despite the fact that this is a very tight-sewn wine, almost scrutable already. All the classicism you want; beautiful architecture of flavor. Chapeau! I’d love to own this wine. | 98
