Nicolas Belfrage: Medium depth, lighter than most. Herbal, spicy notes on the nose, and hints of rose. Almost a savory character on the palate, the tannins with ripe berry fruit, relatively light but that could be deceptive. Good length but no great concentration compared with others. But it has its own character, and is quite intense. Drink from 2017. 88
Stephen Brook: Fairly deep to deep red. Smoky cherry nose with some charm and lift—the Sangiovese soars through nicely. Medium-bodied and limpid, the high acidity giving a certain sharpness. The zest is welcome yet it lacks nuance and drive. The redfruits purity is appealing but the wine does rather grind to a halt on the mid-palate. It’s blunt and seems to lack complexity. I fail to find the qualities that mark this out as a Riserva, and the finish is a touch dry and short. 84
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red with some early brick notes just beginning to creep in. A scent of warm currants with fresh green hazels and almonds: refined and enticing. Deep, searching, with plunging acidity, perhaps with a very slight lactic quality. Impressive and concentrated wine. 86
