Bruno Besa: Garnet to tawny. Open, cedar-wood, small-red-fruit nose, with rose water, tar, dried orange peel, and crushed stones. Medium body, slightly challenging tannins, yet long, with a leather and tobacco finish. 91
Andrew Jefford: Translucent clear red with some tiling. Just a little bit baked here. Attractive, but lacks the urgent call on your attention that comes with freshness. Redcurrant and strawberry jam ... though from Barolo soils, of course, these still arrest. Earthy, dense, rather grunty; groundhog Barolo, snuffling and digging its way about your palate. Concentrated, good, and much to enjoy in that mole-like style. Plenty of finish and push; good vineyards, for sure. 88
Michael Palij: The nose shows baked red and black fruit, with a jammy, stewed character and insufficient fruit to battle the astringent, drying tannins. The acidity is only moderate, and the alcohol is top-heavy. It lacks balance and is another victim of the heat of 2017. 87 Garnet to tawny. Restrained, tobacco and leather nose, with small red fruits, rosewater, cedarwood, minerals, blood oranges, and dried herbs. Beautifully balanced palate, with super-refined tannins, a clean, small citrus and red fruits character, and a long, refined finish. Another classic Nebbiolo for the cellar. | 95
