Bruno Besa: Dark garnet to tawny. Ripe black fruit, cedar wood, nuts, and spices on the nose, with road tar, smoke, black truffles, and forest undergrowth. Ripe and full-bodied on the palate, with black-cherry jam, a little overripe yet complex and long. 93
Andrew Jefford: Dark garnet-red; translucent. Quite a lot of mixed ripeness here ... and ditto on the palate. Gosh! Sorry but I don’t recommend buying this wine and the producer needs to reconsider his harvesting policy. 78
Michael Palij: Wonderful nose, encompassing very ripe black fruit, including fig, date, and prune, allied to notes of coffee, sweet spice, and black cherry. The palate is long on warming alcohol and dusty tannins, but short on length and fruit definition. This is a very forward example of Barolo 2017, which lacks complexity and is dominated by overripe fruit and drying tannins, but nonetheless displays decent concentration. 92
