BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Mixed. Medium depth, bright. Inviting perfumes of flower and fruit. Nice balance on the palate of ripe berry fruit and mushroom/ truffle, with tannin structure right on the button and good acid. Classic. Drinking now for 10+ years. 17.5

Andrew Jefford: Relatively light and clear against its peers, though sustained in color. Deep, earthy, rich, and long, with lots of aromatic power and depth: complex and provocative. Tamarind, coffee, blood orange. On the palate, this is rich, athletic, lively, and concentrated, with the classic Barolo paradox: How can such an otherwise light and silky wine hit you at the end with such a whack of tannin? This doesn’t have huge amounts of extract or depth, though; back to the tenor register, and the reliance on aromatic intrigue to carry the wine. 14.5

Franco Ziliani: Dark ruby color, with good intensity and brightness. A very intense and luscious nose, ripe in the right way, with masses of fruit, licorice, spice, good elegance and freshness. Surprisingly open and clear if you consider the young age of the wine. Broad and fleshy, with marvelous, silky, velvety tannins, a fantastic fresh acidity, and great length and persistence; the wine will continue to improve on your palate with a natural balance, elegance, finesse, and richness of savor. A classic wine that you must buy and hold in your cellar. 18
