Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, nearing opaque. Herbal and floral on the nose, not loud but persistent. A wine for laying down, with excellent tannins and acid-fruit balance; a wine that grows on you and leaves you only after some time with a satisfied feeling. Combines power and (potential) grace —needs time. Drink from 2017 for 15 years. 17
Andrew Jefford: Deep red-black core to dark garnet rim. Earthy, warm, gently fungal aromas; thick underbrush, too. Grippy and full on the palate. It’s a slightly unfocused wine, without a lot of aromatic precision, but the core of ripe warmth is admirable; the tannins are round and generous; and there is plenty of fruit saturation in the acidity. Indeed on a retaste against its flight peers, the fruit is actually more present, concentrated, and ringing than for many. It’s harmonious and round. No one will feel short-changed by this. Very good Barolo in just a faintly sloppy style... But after all, doesn’t the required élevage for this wine deliver those approximations and round, impressionist aromas? 16.5
Franco Ziliani: Rich ruby color, very dense in the glass. Good typicity of Nebbiolo aromas: rose, licorice, tobacco, plum, dried flowers, some orange and cinnamon, with a good intensity and richness. Just a little more interesting on the palate, which shows some evolution despite the young age. The tannins have some aggressive aspects and lack elegance and harmony. No great finesse. 15
