BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook | Some tobacco and leather, as well as cherry fruit on the nose, adding complexity. Rich and broad, without the pinched character of some of these wines, and the tannins are fine-grained. It’s forthright and energetic, with a welcome swagger that compensates for the slight lack of finesse. Long, textured finish. | 92

Andrew Jefford | Very deep black-red: brooding, among its peers. Warm, masterful, authoritative: a wealth of exciting banked-up fruit, warm stone, and summer undergrowth. Very concentrated and firmly structured, with plenty of acidity and tannin shaping and firming the cool, curranty fruit. The nose suggested a slightly more flamboyantly ripe wine than this in fact proves to be. Very 2016 in its style of firm freshness. High in quality, with many years ahead. | 94

Michael Palij | Beautiful notes of raspberry jam, strawberry, red plum, kirsch, fig, and cedar are all in evidence. The cool graphite, licorice, and menthol notes add another layer of complexity and contribute to this wine’s appeal. It’s rich and multidimensional, with a deft mix of tannin, acidity, and fruit. Everything is here to enable further aging, something that has been lacking in many wines in the tasting. | 96
