BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook | The nose is quite perfumed, with delicate cherry fruit and a light floral character. It’s no blockbuster, but the palate does show ample grip and structure without being extracted or overly forceful. At present, the tannins slightly overwhelm the fruit, but this needs time to harmonize. Still austere and frankly charmless, this is an old-fashioned style that favors burliness over elegance. | 89

Andrew Jefford | Clear garnet-red. Lots of refinement, here, with fennel and sweet anise lifting the cherry fruits. Very pretty and beguiling. Relatively simple in fruit terms, and without great grip or concentration—but I don’t know the price, and I do know this would be a lovely wine to sit down with and drink, hailing from a very special zone in Tuscany. It’s true that the aromatic profile suggested something more complex than the palate delivered, but this is still a wine with much to offer. | 87

Michael Palij | Rich, ripe, spicy, scented aromas of incense, cedar, licorice, red cherry, plum, hawthorn, mineral. On the palate, the structure is present, but the tannins are very much at the front and dominate the palate at this point. The fruit shows real promise and may, in time, come out, but it’s a little lean at the moment. | 92
