Simon Field | Impressive and evocative color, amber, sandstone, with a soft fade; thereafter, both aromatic and palate are simple, gently seductive, but lacking the weight and gravitas of the best examples. The acidity is pronounced and almost a little intrusive. Here we have herbs and soft spice; fennel and rosemary, an engaging and poised mise-en-scène, with a good weight of detail finely etched thereafter. | 90
Andrew Jefford | Light and translucent, with russet-walnut hues (in fact, the darkest of a very light 1975 cohort). Light, sweet, softly grassy aromas, with ample barley-sugar and plum-jam sweetness. Softly attractive, though without much aromatic detail. Lots of tangy sweetness at the beginning of the palate, though this tapers away quite swiftly and the wine becomes much dryer and firmer toward the end. Lacks all layered depths, though, and has little aromatic finesse, and generally unworthy of the Vintage Port designation. | 84
Richard Mayson | Mid-deep brick-red, with a broad orange- tawny rim; soft, open, and rather spirity on the nose, with the fruit having faded into the background; similarly soft and loose-knit on the palate, with rich, rather cooked, plum jammy flavors without a great deal of structure. Nonetheless, still standing up quite well, and a satisfying if not very complex wine. | 86
