Stephen Brook | Less golden than most other wines, but that’s often the case in Barsac. More citric on the nose than most, with delicacy and charm rather than overt power. The attack is bright and lively, with purity and assertiveness. There’s high acidity, giving a mandarin and barley-sugar tone rather than flavors of stone fruits or the exotic east. This is trim and elegant, with no fat or blowsiness. It’s not that expressive now but will surely go the distance. Superb length on the finish. | 94
Andrew Jefford | Pale to mid-gold in color. There’s a sense of great richness waiting to be unleashed here, with hints of buttered nuts, candied lemon, pressed leaves and beeswax, but it all needs more time to swim into focus and full articulation. Mute at present but the promise is magnificent. At present, the Doisy-Daëne has quite a bright, taut, gingery, typically Barsac palate: not super-unctuous but very concentrated and very aromatically complex, on the palate as well as on the aromas. Best put away for another 8 to 10 years. | 92
