Simon Field: Black fruit is writ large here and then underlined, bolstered by smoky tannins and piercing acidity. Not so much an indiscretion of youth; more an expression of youth’s heavy imprimatur, which will frame an extended evolution—in this case, I suspect, a happy process and one that will evidence a softening and subtle integration of all these worthy components. | 90
Andrew Jefford: Deep, saturated black-red. Like so many ’16s, the conjunction of fine-grained fruit with ample power and drive is remarkable here. This is a forceful yet enchanting black-fruit scent, shimmering with blackcurrant freshness and still-yeasty warmth. Superb aromas. The palate is deep, dense, rich, full, savory, leathery, almost salty—though these are secondary evolution notes that are just faint hints and suggestions at present, while the wine is primary and exploding with fruit. But they show how much complexity is there. Very low-acid, ripe, baroque, Cirque de Soleil—magnificent. | 94
Richard Mayson: Deep, opaque, and dense on the nose, underlying power, depth, and ripeness though closing in now; lovely dark chocolate richness and huge breadth of flavor, combining depth of fruit and tannins in equal measure, natural sweetness and flesh, licorice and bittersweet dark chocolate, the massive gripping finish also showing its finesse. One for the long haul and hugely impressive. Has it all. | 97
