Bruno Besa | Light ruby to garnet. Fairly refined, intense, complex spicy nose, with small red fruits, earthy undertones, smoke, and dried herbs. Medium body, a touch simple on the mid-palate, yet clean and inviting. | 87
Andrew Jefford | Clear light red. Warm, round, harmonious, though relatively unfocused aromas. Just a touch of reduction or something very like. Clear, bright, almost piercingly forthright fruits, with the acids clearly in the driving seat. A touch bitter on the finish. Grown-up wine, nonetheless, with proper tannins and the innate classiness of fruit you’d expect from Montalcino. | 86
Michael Palij | Surprisingly ripe and pretty nose, with cranberry, redcurrant, and a little spice suggesting moderate oak treatment. For a Rosso, this shows excellent concentration and a lovely, dusty coating of tannins to round things off. Has an elegance typical of the vintage but is fully ripe and free of the vegetal character that is a hallmark of 2014. | 86
