BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage | Deep color with some turn on the rim. Semi-developed nose of field flowers and garrigue. A wine with ripe tannins and good but not sharp acidity, it will be drinking for a few more years yet. On the rich rather than restrained side. | 89

Bruno Besa | Garnet to orange. Overripe, with an oxidized nose and fairly rustic palate. | 82

Andrew Jefford | Deep, clear black-red. Rather coarse and raspingly fruity, with an ashy note to it. (There were Burgundy 2011s that smelled like this.) Not a great success, and an uninviting scent. On the palate, the same ashy notes persist, which is a shame, since in other respects this is a wine of unusual depth and density for the vintage, with a concentration and a stamp of authority to it. Hard to score, but I must judge as I find, and I wouldn’t really relish this wine. | 81
