Nicolas Belfrage | Very deep, little turn. Low-key, plummy notes. Deep, rich, and brooding, with very firm tannins and a bitter twist on the finish, which is long but not very svelte. Not drinking yet or for a few years, but could open out into something special. | 91
Bruno Besa | Deep garnet to pink. Closed nose, mature black- and red-fruit character yet fairly dominated by the oak at present. Full-bodied, with big yet refined tannins, layered fruit, and a long, mature finish. A wine that needs a few years to show its best. | 93
Andrew Jefford | Dark, clear black-red. Earthy, plummy, perfumed, and vivacious: an aromatic profile of some generosity in this sometimes thin vintage, though there still isn’t any evident roar of ripeness at its core. On the palate, too, it is (at last!) a wine with some breadth and wealth to it, teased to perfect ripeness, singingly fruity, almost juicy in style, yet framed by well-hewn grape-skin tannins, and with a delicious dry-herb-and-amaro finish. A very good effort for the year—and a rousing 2013 Brunello for the short to medium term. | 90
