BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, almost opaque, still very ruby even on rim. Plenty of attack on nose, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Mouth filling and positive, the wine has breeding and length with Sangiovese style in terms of acid and tannin, less so in terms fruit type. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, this is serious stuff with 15–20 years ahead. 17

Roy Richards Quite tight, not showy, then animal on second nose. Like some others, this leans towards rusticity, while being an authentic example. Acceptable. 13

Franco Ziliani: Good concentration of color and nose, ripe but not overripe fruit, cherry and plum, earthy, wild, licorice notes, aromatic herbs, leather. The palate is rich, with an interesting structure, lacks balance and freshness. The finish is bitter, dry and astringent, maybe due to an excess of oak and over-extraction. 14
