Nicolas Belfrage | Medium deep, considerable oranging on the rim. Prunes and plums and glacé cherries on the nose. Lots of ripe, evolved, sweet fruit on the palate, alcoholic but not to its detriment. A wine of concentration and character, one of the old school to be enjoyed for years to come. | 94
Bruno Besa | Garnet to tawny. A touch closed and developed, tobacco and cedarwood nose, a little medicinal and vegetal. Medium body, with refined tannins and a long, tobacco-leaf nose. A classic Sangiovese not showing at its best at present. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Deep, clear black-red. Sweet and warm, with plenty of red fruits and almost a jam-pot bubble to it, though not particularly subtle or nuanced. It’s all about fruit on the palate, but there is plenty of it; and it’s rounded and vivacious and ripe. This is a thoroughly enjoyable effort for the vintage, though it wouldn’t be a wine I would cellar for long. The innate class of the soils and sites gives it a finishing dignity and poise: true Brunello. Well done to its creator for rising above the challenges of the year. | 90
