Bruno Besa | Garnet to pink. Fairly complex, animal nose, a touch rustic yet layered and inviting, with smoked meat, prunes, and morello cherries. Compact palate, medium body, firm tannins, and a fairly long, mineral finish. | 90
Stephen Brook | [A different bottle from the one tasted by BB and
Andrew Jefford.] Reduced nose. Slack and rounded, this has no energy or zest. Soupy and dull and possibly faulty. | NS AJ | Clear, deep black-red. Warm, burry, and autumnal in scent—there’s lots of glowing ripeness here. Roasted berries and fruited sweetness: super. Lush, rich, accessible, and yet multidimensioned, with magnificent tannins and penetrating depth of fruit. This certainly needs longer to settle down; an amply dimensioned, multilayered wine. It’s in the acidity that you see the profile of the vintage. The fresh rather than the extravagant end of things, despite the overall warmth and generosity of the fruit. A very promising wine to tuck away in the cellar for half a decade or so. | 94
