Nicolas Belfrage: Medium depth; correct color, with oranging rim. Slightly floral but slightly offclean nose. Good character fruit if just a touch dilute compared with [Sobrero Barolo Ciabot Tanasio]. Still, lots of quality fruit there and good structure, with perfumes promising to come through. A fine traditional Barolo. Drink from 2014 - 16

Stephen Brook: Deep plum red. Rich, tarry, leathery nose, with a whiff of chocolate and plums. Rich and broad, quite succulent, but backed by firm tannins. Concentrated and spicy, with considerable vigor, yet the aftertaste is marred by high alcohol. Quite long, with a rather dry finish - 14

Jancis Robinson: Blackish with a yellow rim! Extremely ripe and pruney. Knife-edge as to whether it is in balance. It is! Very big and dramatic but not completely over the top—just one of the riper examples. Dry finish after lots of ripe prune juice. Well done for keeping it in check. But, tasting it after a few minutes in the glass, I fear it is just a bit too tired. Drink 2013–21 - 16
