Simon Field: Inky, near opaque colour and a refined nose that marries black fruits, leather and spice. On the palate, a real weight and concentration that, allied to the minerality and firm acidity, betrays old vines and exemplary husbandry. Tight and resonant, a wine of huge potential and power. 18.5
Andrew Jefford: Black-red, and great glycerol levels. Very pure, serene, creamy, light, elegant, fresh-fruited aromas, with great waves of charm and still something of the youthful vegetative thrill, too. This has got to be good... and it is. Very big, almost juicy, very thrusting and forceful, exuberant, bouncy. Riper, fuller and more open than some, this is a big Vintage Port that will give enormous pleasure. My only question mark over it is whether it really has a tight enough grain and a fresh enough fruit core to endure spectacularly for two or three decades. But in terms of energy and thrust, it’s all there. 17,5
Richard Mayson: Deep opaque centre, thin crimson rim. Closed, tight and withdrawn. Some bitter-chocolate intensity. Big and rich, tight and dense. A good wine that has intensity and long, spicy length. Good structure. 16.5
