Simon Field: Full of colour, robust and earthy on the nose, clean and quite severe, with hints of aniseed. Slightly ungainly in youth, this is a wine that is robust and powerfully tannic - tar and roses. A saucerful of secrets, a Port that will evolve slowly, ponderously, inevitably. 16
Andrew Jefford: Alluring: it looks well packed with good legs. Well-composed aromas with good complexity: fruits, spice, and herbal warmth. Deep, vivid, lovely fresh spicy style of fruit here, with ample, broad, sweet supporting tannins, though they don’t drive on to create a graphite-infused finish as some do. Instead, they are intimately bound to fruit and allow it to subside with real power. Overall a sense of beefy depth and volume, with lovely fragrant finish. Excellent. 17.5
Richard Mayson: Very deep opaque centre, withathin crimson-blue rim. Wonderfully scented floral nose - yet to close up? Chocolate, too. Big and tight. Bitter-chocolate flavours, and very expressive for a wine that is so young. This should develop quite well. Drink 2015 plus. An oddball but not unattractive. 17.5
