Simon Field: Gentle mature colour; by contrast quite a high-toned and strident nose. The palate comes down on the side of the colour and is generous, voluptuous and reasonably mature. Attractive toffee and fruitcake notes, well-integrated tannins, strong supporting acidity and quite a kick of alcohol. From the cavalier camp, this Port is sweetly a point. 17.5
Andrew Jefford: Another pale, fully mature wine, though red rather than brick red. A sense of sweet rounded fruitiness but no great depth or focus. Soft, full, and richer than the colour suggested. The tannin is now fully softened down, but the fruited poise is still there. This is a wine of some seriousness and stature, but absolutely ready now to glide into the glasses. 16
Richard Mayson: Mid-pale brick-red centre, browning rim. Rather stewed prune nose, lacking definition. Better on the palate but still a touch of prunes, and baked. Firm tannins with the fruit tailing away on the finish. Drink now and over the next 15 years. 12
