Stephen Brook: Rich, opulent nose, ripe apricots. Medium-bodied; not that sweet, quite broad; pleasant but lacks flair, not as voluptuous as the nose suggests; rather dull. Medium length, blunt finish. 14
Andrew Jefford: Full gold here. Interesting but unusual: minty pears. Northern fruits but southern herbs. Big splash of flavour, but the balance and fruity acidity lack finesse, sinew, sap, nerve, edge and minerality. One is left admiring the sheer force and the energy of the wine, and its exuberant intensity, but the very greatest wines also need finesse and grain, and there must be a question mark over whether these are truly present. Nonetheless, this is one of the most drinkable and juicy of the Auslesen. 15.5
Jancis Robinson: Strangely mousy nose. Hot, silly - sorry, this is my Pavie 2003 in this tasting. Just can’t see the point of aggressive acidity and aggressive alcohol without any message of opulent fruit or intriguing terroir to bind them together. Drink 2009-12. 14
