Roy Hersh: Identical in appearance to the Taylor’s, a dark garnet color with clarity and near opacity. Complex aromas of black fruits, anise, and dried herbs. An excellent showing for this powerful Port with a seductive mouthfeel, blackberry and cassis profile, along with ample acidity and chiseled tannins. This Fonseca seemed to be nearing its peak at 40 years young, yet there’s enough fruit and structure to carry this for several more decades yet. Fine symmetry overall and a multifaceted, silky smooth, persistent finish.
