Nicolas Belfrage: Medium deep, bright. Honest, reasonably intense nose of raspberry-cherry fruit, with “lanolin.” A straightforward presence in the mouth, opening to embrace citrus fruits and culinary herbs. Alluring acidity, long and fine. Nothing brash about it, but eminently Brunello and highly drinkable. Drink from 2017. 89
Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Smoky nose, with ripe black fruits and some sweet oak; seductive, overall. Rich and suave, rounded and opulent, with very ripe tannins to embrace the fruit. Although not jammy or discernibly overripe, the alcohol seems high and somewhat obtrusive. Yet the wine offers hedonistic pleasure and is not severely out of balance, with the acidity giving a fairly long finish. 89
Andrew Jefford: Deep, dark, almost opaque black-red. Another very rich mixture; almost a plum pudding of a wine. Lots of rich fruits, with some sweetness of wood; a little bit stewy. On the palate, this is a hugely generous, well-endowed wine whose only slight failing is a lack of architecture and finesse— plus the question of how appropriate “sweetness” is as a note in Brunello RiservaVery exciting wine nonetheless. 89
