Caprili Brunello di Montalcino Italy 2018 (14% ABV) – 91.3
BB | Garnet to pink. Compact, clean, mineral, small-red-fruits nose, with crushed stones, orange peel, and aromatic herbs. Well-balanced on the palate, with sweet red fruit, firm but fine tannins, lively acidity, and a clean, layered, long finish. Youthful, with good aging potential. 93
MP | Delicate and perfumed nose, showing violets, rose, candied red fruit of cherry and strawberry, earthy notes, and subtle spicy notes. This is a very pretty, old-school Brunello, with vibrant acidity and melded tannins. Built for lengthy aging, this has made the most of 2018's cooler moments to craft a wine of great structure and thoughtfulness. It unfurls gently and without pretense. It will be fascinating to watch this tortoise overtake some of the hares. 96
AJ | Deep black-red. Plump, fat, almost toasty fruits: warm, rounded, exuberant, and enjoyable, though no great aromatic finesse here. Smooth and open; soft and straightforward. No great finesse or complexity, but the core of fruit is sound and enjoyable. 85
