SF | Dense, uncompromising color; soft mahogany, almost a Madeira green at the rim! The nose is smoky, a touch resinous, with honey and vanillin, and deeper notes, too: soot, tar, molasses. Mid-palate, this is resourceful, tense yet complete, with marked acidity and firm secondary flavors, harmoniously balanced. A strong, lignified finish marks this as one of the more powerful examples, but does not undermine its inherent balance or its capacity to please now or in the future. 92
AJ | Deep russet-red with garnet glints. Rather mushroomy, composty aromas... but this is a valid style for Colheita, and there is sweet-fruited charm, too. Limpid and shapely on the palate, both generous but well-fashioned and organized. There's a significant acid balance here, and almost some tannin to lend the wine texture and shape, and the fruit complexity, with its herbal overtones, is scrutable on the palate. A little warm on the finish, which, paradoxically, may be an effect of the lively acid balance (which throws the alcohol into dramatic relief). 2024–28. 90
RM | Good, mid-deep, red-tawny hues; attractive, slightly smoky-savory complexity on the nose, and similarly suave and complex on the palate, with silky, creamy, textural richness and a lovely piquancy toward the finish, which shows great finesse and delicacy. Great poise. 94
