Nicolas Belfrage: Medium deep. Attractive nose of ripe fruit and Brunello “lanolin” on the nose. Rich and rip in the mouth, with ripe fruit somewhat submerged at the moment but enough stuffing to ensure a longish life. Good length, charm of sweet fruit on the finish, with just a hint of bitterness. 89

Stephen Brook: Opaque red. Savory nose, a bit tarry, with a slightly worrying oxidative edge. The attack is surprisingly soft and rounded, though formidable tannins kick in fast. There’s a hint of overripeness and this does lack some freshness and zest. A monolithic style with little light and shade, and the acidity and thus persistence seem modest. I suspect this will evolve rapidly. 84

Andrew Jefford: Very deep black-red. Some wood sweetness mingling with beefy, slabby, blood-dripping fruits and dry spice. Cut white mushroom, too. Lush, uninhibited, and enticing, though a little less “Brunello” than some of its peers on the table. On the palate, all of the above applies; this is a brooding, lushly fleshy, limitless exciting Amazon of a wine. Head-turning and commanding, and set for many years’ cellar storage. Very modern in style, and classicists may resent the sweetness a little, but it would still be, I think, a privilege to taste and to drink. 89
