Stephen Brook | Shy nose, with delicate ripe citrus fruit. Ripe and poised and still reserved, so not very expressive or overt. But the acidity gives a welcome brightness and pungency. Grippy and a touch austere, this is far from fruit-forward but has subtlety and a complex mineral finish. Admirable poise and length. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Bright pale gold. This is a much better Les Romains than [the Gitton Père & Fils Sancerre Les Romains 2016]; clean, fresh, poised, nettly, pungent, and sappy. Very acid-structured and long on the palate, driving and pure. We have changed gear altogether in terms of the role of acidity within the wine as a whole, and perhaps that is typical of the clay soils in Sancerre, but if you are looking for a driving, mouthwatering, almost spear-like “Fumé” style in Sancerre, this is a good place to go. An excellent wine. | 91
Stephan Reinhardt | Withatouch of (not very well-selected) botrytis, this is a creamy but elegant, very mineral and tannic Sancerre from the Romains lieu-dit. The finish is fresh and salty but also a bit astringent right now. Very, very tight. | 90
