BUY THE WINE

Bruno Besa | Garnet to tawny. A touch developed, tobacco and leather nose, with wild small red fruits and some spices. Medium body, fairly complex, yet lean with an austere finish. Classic Brunello, a touch overdeveloped. | 90

Andrew Jefford | Clear, limpid bright red. Some curranty fruit, but some leafiness, too. Attractive and balanced overall, though not a profound Brunello scent. On the palate, the wine is rather better than the aromatic profile suggested, with ample depth and drive to it, with purity of fruit, and with better persistence and complexity than I would have guessed. Very true to its place and its origins, if arrayed in “lesser vintage” guise. But you could still derive enormous satisfaction from this in drinking. | 89

Michael Palij | An elegant 2014 on the nose, with red currant, cherry, and floral notes. On the palate, however, the wine shows a streak of geranium that does not bode well for the future, with a grippy finish characterized by coarse tannins and a lack of generosity. This wine has a short finish and an angular character. | 78
