BUY THE WINE

Simon Larkin :Aromatic suggest deep damson and cherry fruit. The palate shows deep-natured fruit with some firm tannins. The fruit is complex, with a beef-stock character. Very restrained structurally, there is a tight-wound nature here. A traditional style that will need patience for 10-15 years. 15.5

Nicolas Belfrage: Medium-deep colour, nose similar to the 1997, but more restrained, oak showing through a touch more. More brooding style of wine, but strangely the acidity is less marked, tannins robust. Plum and spice with notes of coffee on the finish. Not the drinkability of the 1997 - more closed and I'm not sure the potential is there for great things. In this case, the 1997 is better. 15
