Bruno Besa | Garnet to tawny. A touch closed, slightly rustic nose, with prunes and black cherries and some Mediterranean herbs. Ripe, medium- to full-bodied palate, with exuberant tannins, layered black fruit, and moderate finish. Muscular wine with little finesse. | 89
Andrew Jefford | Relatively deep black-red, though translucent. Warm and ripe, a touch high-toned, but that simply gives lift to the aromas and is well back from “faulty”: glowing, enticing Brunello aromas of a sort that you don’t expect to find in 2014. The aromas pull back a little with time in the glass, however. On the palate, this has very impressive ripeness and palate wealth, with absolutely no sense of edginess or greenness: a southerly location? The vintage expresses itself in a slight lack of concentration and resonance, but in other respects this is a super wine, exuberant, deep, textured, and gratifying, and huge fun to drink in the short to medium term. It has, too, some of the best palate “width” in this tasting, though there are others with more purity and aromatic refinement. I guess it’s just a little bit hard- squeezed and bitter finishing for a really high score, but I would enjoy drinking this a lot. | 90
Michael Palij | This wine announces its intentions with a big blast of very ripe black fruit, including prune and fig allied to an obvious oak component of licorice and tar. The nose indicates that this wine—with its character already in the tertiary spectrum—is already too evolved, and further maturation will rob it of its primary fruit. | 83
