Nicolas Belfrage: Quite deep color. Nose a bit quiet, herbs and red fruits. This wine has the ripe fruit and firm structure that seems to be the calling card of the vintage, together with the Porty finish that one associates more with Nebbiolo than Sangiovese. 91
Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny. Fairly closed, decadent, spicy nose, with leather, prunes, tobacco and smoked meat. A touch green on the palate, with firm tannins and a fairly simple red-fruit finish. 88
Andrew Jefford: Clear, deep black-red. Warm and roasty fruit aromas, with an incense-like note, too: byzantine, generous, and enticing (oak plays its part in this profile). Weighty, full, well-ballasted, with lots of sweet pruney depths; close-textured and long. Warm embers to finish. A wonderful wine to cozy up to in winters to come. It’s not the most allusive or finely detailed wine here, but its generosity, texture, and depth are admirable. 91
