Richard Mayson: Pale pinkish tawny; not giving a great deal away on the nose, slightly metallic edge. Very fresh and delicate on the palate, quite racy and supremely refined with a long savory finish. Love it, but can’t quite get to grips with the nose. 15.5
Margaret RandRich, powdery nose. Sweet, rich palate. Flavors of coffee and chocolate, dark spice and roasted nuts. Deep and rich and powerful: a wine to take seriously. Much more an after-dinner Port than an apéritif. It might even be the tiniest bit pompous. It’s a stout man in a double-breasted suit—I can think of certain wine merchants who fit this wine perfectly. 17
