Nicolas Belfrage: Deepish colour, not quite opaque. Faintly floral nose. Plenty of fruit on palate but not coming together at present; tannins aggressive, tho acids correct. Makes for somewhat disjointed finish but needs five years before rejudging. 14.5
Stephen Brook: Very ripe cherry-and-blackberry nose, with some oak. Supple attack, sleek in texture, with refreshing acidity on the mid-palate. The balance of fruit, tannin, and acidity seems exemplary and almost self-effacing, though there’s a touch of heat on the finish suggesting high alcohol. The finish is strong and tannic, a bit overbearing now but boding well for the future development of the wine. 18
Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red, just off opaque. This is an aroma with some compositional force: Sweet notes mingle with high-toned red fruit and a little crushed-acorn complexity. Yet it doesn’t have the subtlety or intrigue of the best wines in this tasting. Very intense, almost aggressive, with a shovelful of acidity propelling the bright, red-curranty fruits through the palate. What lies behind? There’s satisfactory extract, the aromatically rich tannins of long maceration, and an overall sense of leafy complexities. Just a notch or two off the best, this wine is slightly held in check but is very assertive. Aggressive style. Time may mollify this; I hope so. 16
