BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Medium deep, bright. Plum, leather, and herb on the nose, not loud but attractive. Chewy tannins on the finish, somewhat gritty; blackberry and dark cherry fruit, with plenty of backbone. A bitter note on the finish, medium long. Not particularly attractive now, but it has the potential for development. Drink from 2018 at the earliest. 89

Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to lively pink rim. Mature, broad nose, with black cherries and plums. Clean palate with great tannins yet a touch simple on the midpalate. This is wine that will definitely improve over the next 5–10 years. 89

Andrew Jefford: Deep, clear black-red. Subtly sweet scents of rose and violet with some rougher crushed acorn and leaf litter. Pure, limpid, refined, and elegant: a traditionalist’s style, with all of the interest lying not in flesh itself or primary fruit, but in the tension between acidity and tannin and the flavory hinterland behind. Very gastronomic and grown-up, and no sense of it being an easy, sweet year here. Concentrated and demanding: impressive wine. 90
